Le musée est actuellement fermé pour travaux d'extension et de rénovation. Il sera réouvert à la fin de l'année 2019.

Construit entre 1855 et 1867 par les architectes Henri Parent et Arthur Diet, financé par des loteries organisées par la Société des Antiquaires de Picardie, le Musée de Picardie, véritable joyau du style éclectique, a été conçu à la fois comme un lieu destiné à recueillir les antiquités de la région et les collections de peinture de la Ville, comme un palais sur le modèle du nouveau Louvre de Napoléon III et comme un monument élevé à toutes les gloires et au génie de la Picardie.

MUSÉE DE PICARDIE

The museum is actually undergoing important renovation works and it's closed. It will reopen at the end of 2019.

Since it first opened back in 1867, the Musée de Picardie has been considered one of the finest French museums outside of Paris. Inspired by Napoleon III’s Louvre design, it is a museum of fine arts and archaeology bringing together rich collections of sculptures, artefacts and paintings, taking visitors on a journey across the world and through time from the Palaeolithic Era to the present day.

EXTENSION AND RENOVATION WORKS AT THE MUSEUMS
A part of the museum is closed while these works are ongoing, with the exception of the two small rooms “l’Étude” and “la Contemplation” which are used for showcasing temporary exhibitions. The “Chapelle” opens from 10 March 2017 for an exhibition.

Building an extension on to the museum including a cultural mediation areas in particular, creating a reception area, then the renovations will involve opening the 1820 sq.m. of the museum’s first floor back up to the public.
The gardens are also undergoing modernization as to offer a city walk.

It will be totally closed on July 3, 2017 and will reopen in 2019.
